Pay Roll Tax Notes

Our payroll tax software calculates effortlessly and correctly all the required payroll taxes that include both the employee and employer liable taxes in all 50 states and the US territories like Guam, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Our MUDIAM software eases your pain to correctly identify which states make you pay, as an employer along with your employees. There are seven states in which only the employer pays state payroll taxes like Unemployment SUTA taxes and Disability Insurance payroll taxes. States like Texas, Nevada, Florida, New Hampshire, Washington and few others exempt employee paying any payroll tax like withholding. Most of these employees pay only federal mandated taxes like social security, Medicare and federal withholding taxes.

Typically employee bonus pay are taxed at supplemental tax rates which can be anywhere between 25% and the highest tax rate for that year, which by the way, is 34.8% for the year 2014. This supplemental tax rate is just for federal withholding in addition to other mandated social security, Medicare payroll taxes. In other words, employee end up paying anywhere between 40 and 50% of their bonus pay checks. If the current year to date wages is more than $1 million dollars, then the supplemental withholding tax rate for federal taxes alone would rise up to 34.8%. For employees making more than $200,000 in a year, both employer and employee have to pay an additional 0.9% Medicare payroll taxes in addition to 1.45% they normally pay for Medicare taxes.

Coming to state payroll taxes, some states have payroll taxes like withholding, disability insurance, employee and employer unemployment taxes. For more than 8 to 10 states, we have local payroll taxes in addition to federal and state taxes. These states include PA, OH, KY and few other states. Here we have payroll taxes like county taxes, school district taxes, village, borough, township etc.
